Every chair has a story

This chair was found in a garage after the previous occupants of a house had moved. It looked very sad, the top fabric was worn completely away in some places and the upholstery was badly in need of replacing.

The chair has a mid- century feel with very graceful arms and simple legs and was definitely worth a makeover.

All the fabric and upholstery was stripped to reveal the structure of the chair which was not in need of repair.

To give the chair a more contemporary look and accentuate the feature arms, the woodwork was ebonised with black matt paint. The fabric chosen was Harlequin Arkona Weave Elva which has a black curve in the design which echoes the lines of the chair.

Having decided on the fabric the chair was then re-upholstered. The seat was a sprung unit which is very common in mid- century furniture. This needed to be built up using traditional techniques of stitching and stuffing.
Finally the top fabric was fitted over the seat. Plain black piping was used to give definition to the seat edge. The result is a re-upholstered stylish contemporary looking chair with mid-century luxurious style.
