A Chair with a Story

This chair was given to me by a friend; she had found it languishing in her garage. It had been left there by the previous occupants of her house. The chair was structurally sound, that is, the joints of the legs and arms were not wobbly, so I thought I could do something with it. The covering fabric was very old fashioned and worn with parts of it patched and threadbare.

The graceful arms and proportions of the chair intrigued me. They had a mid- century elegance which I thought could be emphasised.

After a little research I came up with a colour scheme and a fabric which highlighted the natural curves and simple form of the piece. The legs and arms have been ebonised and the upholstery completely replaced. The top fabric is by Harlequin with plain black piping to pick out the lines of the seat.

The result is a contemporary looking chair with simple lines and a nod to mid-century style.
